Information Technology Blog
I
have chosen to research the two tech topics, “IT careers” and “How computers
operate”. I chose IT careers because I would like to start a career in IT in the
future and I am curious about careers I can go into that involve both IT and
education. I have lots of experience in education. I worked as a kindergarten
teacher for nine years in the classroom before transitioning to an online
tutor. As an online tutor, I see firsthand how important information technology
is to education. Even in the classroom, teachers and students rely heavily on
technology. There has to be someone there to ensure the smooth sailing of
technology.
IT careers connect to the
fundamentals of information technology in that I would need a good foundation
of knowledge in IT in order to be successful in any IT career. I also need to
know the concepts of information technology and computer science in any IT
career. I need to know how computers operate to be able to help others with
computer issues. The major hardware components and functions of a modern
computer system play a big role in IT careers. I have to work with those
systems and know the ins and outs of components such as the CPU and hard drive.
Programming languages and program execution methods will likely be used in most
IT careers, especially in education. I may end up teaching coding to students
one day. Application software is prevalent in most careers today. IT careers is
no exception; IT careers rly heavily on it. Network management and security is
crucial to a career in IT. In most cases, companies will rely on us to keep
networks secure and ensure devices run smoothly.
In my research, I found I found a
possible IT career involving education; educational technology specialist. “Educational
technology specialists (ETS) or instructional technology specialists often work
in elementary, middle, and secondary schools (private or public), colleges or
universities, government agencies, or in corporations and non-profits. They
play a key role in identifying appropriate educational technology for all types
of classroom applications”, Stoffle, A, 2025. Other possible careers include IT
specialist in a school or a coding teacher in a school.
Another tech topic I researched is “How
computers operate”. This topic is basic knowledge I need to be a successful IT
specialist. “A computer is an electronic machine
that processes information—in other words, an information processor:
it takes in raw information (or data) at one end, stores it until
it's ready to work on it, chews and crunches it for a bit, then spits out the
results at the other end”, Woodford, C. (2023). How computers operate is a
topic that connects to the fundamentals of information technology as a
foundation. To complete the tasks and functions we learned in this course, we must
have an idea of how computers operate. This topic relates to the major hardware
components and functions of a modern computer system because they explain how
computers operate. Knowing how computers operate allows us to use programming
languages and program executive methods with success. Application software
plays a role in how computers operate. The applications have to be installed on
computers and knowing how they operate helps us navigate the applications. Database
and database management is storing and organizing data within a database. This
is a process in knowing how computers operate. Knowing how computers operate
also helps us keep data secure.
Creating a blog was not a new
experience for me. I created a blog a few years ago to help keep my distant
family and friends up to date on what was going on with me. This was before
social media was primarily used for communication. I made a few blog posts and
then eventually moved on to social media sites. Creating a blog for this course
was familiar for me. But, I did learn some new concepts. I learned best
practices in design and layout of a blog. I also learned best practices in using
AI for blogging and maintaining brand voice and consistency, as well as
equality and fairness. I will continue to build upon the knowledge I have gained
in this course by adding to my blog, keeping in my everything I learned.
