Documenting A Day

This week, I explored Word, PowerPoint Presentation, Excel, and Database applications. In Word, I created a journal entry documenting the events of my day. In PowerPoint, I also documented a day in my life, but I was able to make a visual representation of my journal entry. In excel, I made a spreadsheet showing the percentages of time I spent performing the activities of my day. Using database applications, I searched for information in a computer database.

Word was the easiest application for me to use. I have been using Word for many years, and I am familiar with all of the functions within Word. The advantages of Word include easy to navigate, popular writing tool, and plenty of formatting options. Word is easy to use and self-explanatory, which is good for users who are new to creating documents or using software. Word is a popular writing tool that many people are familiar with. It also has many formatting tools that are simple to find and use. One disadvantage to Word is that is that adding graphics is not as seamless and visually appealing as PowerPoint. I would recommend using Word for documenting the events of your day. Word is also useful in writing papers for educational purposes.

PowerPoint is the next best software application to use for documenting your day, in my opinion. PowerPoint allows users to write and format, much like Word. PowerPoint also allows you to easily integrate images, videos, and tools. PowerPoint makes adding graphics to presentations a visually appealing experience. It features options for designing presentations for various purposes. Creating a presentation to document a day in your life is ideal for audiences who are not expected to read lengthy text. PowerPoint is also useful in creating slides for a school project or educational presentation.

Excel was the hardest software application for me to use. I realized I need help with navigating Excel and inputting formulas. I was not able to complete all of the tasks on the Excel Spreadsheet portion of this assignment because I was not able to figure it out. I am not familiar with most of the wording when it comes to formulas in Excel. Even though I was not able to fully understand Excel, I can se that it is a great tool to utilize when working with lists and numbers. Excel is a useful tool for creating lists that require easy data entry. “For centuries, mathematicians, record keepers, accountants, and businesspeople have used spreadsheets to document important numbers and other facts”, Dziak, M, 2024.

Database applications allow users to access information through a search engine. The database processes users’ requests and gives search results based on what was input into the system. I have used database applications in my career such as student information systems such as infinite Campus and Learning management Systems like Canvas. “Database applications are designed to simplify how we access, manage, and interact with data. These applications serve as bridges, allowing data to be consumed either directly by end users through user interfaces (UI) or indirectly by other applications and systems via application programming interfaces (APIs)”, MongoDB, Inc, 2025.
